House Walk 2011

Always Elegant

The Western Springs Historical Society House Walk on May 22 will feature six homes that represent Western Springs’ different neighborhoods from Old Town to Ridgewood. With the Village celebrating its quasquicentennial anniversary this year, the 2011 House Walk will also highlight changes in Western Springs’ home styles over the past 125 years.

“Our goal was to select a variety of homes of different ages, architectural styles and neighborhoods that represent the development of Western Springs over the past 125 years,” said Vicki Lezon, House Walk Chair.

The homes will be open on Sunday, May 22 from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. The Thomas Ford Memorial Library will also be open for refreshments and rest stops from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

All of the homes offer a different set of design ideas. One of the homes is a Dutch Colonial in Ridge Acres, where the use of tranquil colors and natural light create a feeling of relaxation upon entering. A Cape Cod in Ridgewood reflects the style and sophistication of years of travel to England and France. Historical elegance abounds in Old Town where 12 foot ceilings and original features have remained intact over the years. A three story open flared staircase and wall of windows beckons visitors to explore the many other unique characteristics at one of the newer homes featured on the tour in Forest Hills.

“We are so grateful to the more than 300 volunteers, homeowners and businesses that are supporting this community wide effort,” said WSHS President Allyson Zak.

Tickets are available for $35 on the day of the walk at the Western Springs Tower Green.
