Oral history is the perfect vehicle for discovering and preserving the unwritten history, large and small, of our community. We all have stories to tell that help us organize our memories and connect us to the places and times that we have experienced. Preserving oral history encourages people of all ages to ask questions, listen, and participate in creating an important historical record. This record includes details of everyday life in our Village, as well as describing the effects of worldwide events like the Depression and World Wars on Western Springs’ residents. As a result of this Project, residents’ stories and memories will be available to help educate generations to come by providing a vital link from the history of the Village to the present and beyond. You can find information about our interviewees here.
The Oral History Project has received generous grants from the Western Springs Foundation for Educational Excellence and Plymouth Place in order to further the Project to better serve the community. We welcome the participation of interested volunteers in the ongoing Project.
