Preservation Awards

As part of National Preservation Month, the Western Springs Historical Society is honoring homes and businesses with its 2008 Preservation Awards. Throughout May the society is accepting nominations for its 12th annual preservation Awards.

Since 1996, more than 50 structures, private residences, as well as commercial and public buildings have been recognized for maintaining or preserving their historic or architectural integrity while undergoing restoration, renovation or expansion. Nominations are sought from village residents for homes that are at least 50 years old.

The three award categories are:

The Preservation Award is for the maintenance, protection, repair and replacement of the structure to retain the original exterior historic character of the house.

The Rehabilitation Award is for returning a structure or a significant part of it to the original design and condition by repairing or replacing the original material and architectural detail and by painting with historically appropriate colors.

The Compatible Addition Award is given for constructing an addition that recognizes and respects the existing architectural and environmental characteristics of the subject property.

Nomination forms can be picked up from the Water Tower Museum (open Saturdays from 10 to noon), Thomas Ford Memorial Library, the Western Springs Recreation Center, or downloaded here.

Please call 708-246-9230 or email us at info@westernspringshistory.org for more information.
